Emily is a board certified music therapist. She studied music therapy at Western Illinois University in Macomb, IL and received her diploma in the fall of 2008. Her clinical internship was completed at University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, IL. The internship’s main focus was the adult acute inpatient psychiatric unit. She also gained experience on the adolescent psychiatric unit, pediatric unit, neonatal intensive care unit, oncology, and rehabilitation.
Upon passing the music therapy board exam, she began working with a special education cooperative, where she continues to work today. During this time in special education she has ran group music therapy with special need students from preschool through high school. She works with students who have developmental disabilities, autism, cerebral palsy, physical impairments, and other disabilities.
During her years at WIU, she worked in the activity department for a nursing home. She ran weekly music groups and also saw residents for 1:1 music time to decrease isolation and promote memory and reminiscence.
Currently, she serves as the Student Coordinator for the Illinois Association of Music Therapy, and is also a member of the American Music Therapy Association. In 2012, Emily embarked on the journey to obtain a graduate degree in mental health counseling through Northern Illinois University.
Emily resides in Warrenville, IL with her husband Mike and basset hounds Nora and Norbert. She is the founder and owner of Milestone Music Therapy.
